Boiled Rice

 Method

  1. Rule of thumb if we are big eaters 1 kg of rice for 8 people.
  2. Wash the rice and add to rice cooker now add water (Basmati rice – water should reach up to the first line (from the base of your finger-joint on your middle finger (Technical term is palmer flexion crease) for Samba rice it is normally 2 parts water to 1 part rice (cup measure a kg will normally be 3 cups)).
  3. There is no default to adding salt, but as a rule of thumb I add a tablespoon for every kg, but this is totally up to you.
  4. Its great you if you can add some dehydrated rampe (pandan leaf) to the rice as it gives it a great fragrance. My Mum used to also add cardamon pods that grew in the garden.
