Method
- Rule of thumb if we are big eaters 1 kg of rice for 8 people.
- Wash the rice and add to rice cooker now add water (Basmati rice – water should reach up to the first line (from the base of your finger-joint on your middle finger (Technical term is palmer flexion crease) for Samba rice it is normally 2 parts water to 1 part rice (cup measure a kg will normally be 3 cups)).
- There is no default to adding salt, but as a rule of thumb I add a tablespoon for every kg, but this is totally up to you.
- Its great you if you can add some dehydrated rampe (pandan leaf) to the rice as it gives it a great fragrance. My Mum used to also add cardamon pods that grew in the garden.
